I saw Joe Diaz a while back and he asked me to check out the Homecoming. I do not know why he did that. It feels like it has been quite a while since I attended the Homecoming last year and this year I had thought that I would be there. As it turned out, no one from Class 66 organized a gathering. I wonder what is happening.

I would have gone to the homecoming if the class had decided to go as a group. I guess there is no overriding reason to be there. Maybe the December affair will be better attended. Here in CDO, I could see friends who are no longer as active as before. Could it be everything is turning out to be stale and useless?

I myself feel tired and useless.

XU-AAA Homecoming 2008

I met Joe Diaz last week at Limketkai Mall and he reminded me of the XU-AAA Homecoming this month. I have completely no idea what is going on with the association and what the dates are for the Homecoming. I don't even know who the Jubilarians are for this year. What I know is that there is a separate Homecoming in December which seems to be more well-attended than the one celebrated during the Fiesta. While there is reason to have the Annual Homecoming during the August Fiesta, allowing the Stateside residents to come home during the low season, it has caused a kind of schizophrenic Alumni Homecoming celebrations on two separate occasions, The traditional one in December and the other one in August.

I wonder how many people really come to the August Homecoming, those from the United States, I mean. I attended the Homecoming last year but sadly that was something which left a bad taste in the mouth. That they allowed certain things to happen is something which is not only speaks of being dis-organized but is close to being truly asinine. Who's in charge anyway?

I was thinking about the old plans that are now lying in disarray and i wondered if there was a chance that they would be revived and brought to fruition. A successful conclusion would be a good thing and it is about time that I have been successful about anything. There are many plans that are just begging to be restarted and I think that soon they will be. It is gratifying to know that there is hope in life. I had almost lost all hope that i would be able to get anything going.

It is very good to know that some opportunities still lie waiting to be snatched. I do not mean that I have been lackadaisical in snatching at opportunities but I have not been successful in making a go of anything before. Maybe this time things will change and I will successfully move things along.

It has sure been a while since I posted something on this page and that is understandable. I have nothing on XU-AAA and that is not a bad thing, just the absence of something. Does anyone care about XU-AAA anymore? Hmmm... I better leave this train of thought because it is speeding into a direction I do not like.

Virtualize, this is something that is good and I have been working on it. I thought I did not want to give the old brain another workout but as it is, I had to flex these tired mental muscles out of need. I have 2GB of RAM in my computer which, like my mental muscles are doing nothing but sit there looking pretty. Virtualization would allow me to create several virtual machines that do different things at the same time.

I have not been here in a long while and I do not know what I want to say here. The last time I was in Cagayan de Oro was to attend the XU-AAA homecoming in August. What I saw there was something which I did not like but hey, who am I to complain? By the way, my little site, Cagayan de Oro was ranked pretty high in the search pages but I could not find it anywhere today. I don't mind, maybe it is just waiting in the wings. Cagayan de Oro will come back, I think.

So there is a separate homecoming for the High School Chapter. I wonder what they have planned. There is nothing really that I want to say here. It is just nothing. There is nothing. I cannot even remember clearly August. I was pissed which is not a good thing. It's never good to be pissed. It makes you look like an old man. The thing that has not changed too drastically is the ranking for Cagayan de Oro in my Cagayan de Oro keyword. It is still way behind but it is there. So maybe, it will improve as time goes by. I should be going back to Cagayan de Oro but it does not seem so pressing now.

I have been busy with Ching's World but I did place a link to a sketch of a potential XU-AAA website. As luck would have it, nobody seemed interested in it. The secretary of the Alumni Affairs office certainly could not be bothered to open it when it first came out. Too busy, she said. Father too, was busy she said. I was able to see Fr. B and asked if he had seen it. He said that the secretary printed it and showed it to him. Print a web page? That is a new one.

2007 Annual Homecoming

The XU-AAA Annual Homecoming held last August in Cagayan de Oro City was something of an eyeopener. I had the impression that moving the annual homecoming from December to August was good and appreciated by all if not most of the alumni. Notable on Saturday, August 18 dubbed "Barbecue Night" was the special appearance of the Cascades courtesy of Lito Cruz, XUHS 1967. Too bad very few alumni attended the final night of the homecoming.

Everyone remembers the famous Cascades who gave us the "bye-bye" tunes like Rhythm of the Rain to dance to. Unfortunately, no one seemed to know they were coming, at least that was the impression I got. Anyway, they gave a spirited performance, a prelude to their Limketkai concert the following night. They had just given a memorable performance the night before in Cebu City and it was Cagayan de Oro's turn on Sunday night.

A long line formed at the food table and I somehow got the feeling something was amiss with so many people lined up holding empty plates. Was the XU-AAA charging for the food? I know they were charging for the beer because our class, XUHS Class of 1966 paid for some beers.

There is a page on XU-AAA on Ching's World and if anybody saw it, they might have liked to keep it and probably make it grow. Ching's World will not be keeping that section for very long.

Time for annual Homecoming is near

It will be August soon and Cagayan de Oro City will celebrate its Annual Fieasta. Along with the Festivities will come the Annual Homecoming of the Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan Alumni Association (XU-AAA). It might be a bit late but I did manage to put together a sketch or an outline of a website for the XU-AAA and it is linked from Chings-world.com. If allowed to continue, this website will have on its public interface, the highlights of the Annual Homecomings with the list of new Officers of the Association. A visitor therefore will be able to browse the annual Homecomings from the archives. One may also find, if this website is deemed suitable, a listing of Chapters and activities along with a list of officers organized according to year.

There will be an private interface where the Directory of the Association will be located. Members can sign in to access the private pages where one will find addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and photographs of membes will be. Should the XU-AAA decide not to make this the Official Website of the Association, then I will shut down this Website and discontinue the Online Directory.

Same Officers for XU-AAA This Year

The Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan Alumni Association (XU-AAA) did not elect new officers for the year 2007 and the Officers elected for the year 2006 will continue to hold office. I hope to have pictures of the Alumni Homecoming 2007 anytime soon. The Development and Alumni Affairs Office has been swamped with work and will send me the pictures as soon as they can breathe a bit.

Visiting Cagayan de Oro City brought me to the Campus of Xavier University last week, I was surprised to see new buildings where there used to be the old Grade School Building which had given way to the High School Department before they moved to their spanking new Campus at Pueblo de Oro. The Alumni Office which used to be a source of aerobic exercise for one not so young like me, at the third floor of the Museo de Oro is now housed on the ground floor of the Student Center.

The Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan Alumni Association (XU-AAA) will be having its Annual Homecoming on these dates (August 18-20, 2006). This annual event will gather together old friends, comrades and classmates especiall those who graduated from High School 25 years ago (Silver Jubilarians) and those who graduated from Xavier University High School 50 years ago (Golden Jubilarians). This is a time to renew acquaintances and to reminisce about old times. XU-AAA has made a new tradition of holding the Annual Homecoming in August rather than December.

Party Time

Great music and dancing is always a welcome treat to nimble feet. XU-AAA 2005 Homecoming brings old friends and lovers together for a night of partying.

Cagayan de Oro City is the best place to be when it is August. Not only is the feast of St. Augustine celebrated on this month but Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan Alumni Association (XU AAA) also holds its Annual Homecoming in this month adding to the festive flavor of this wonderful month.

Cagayan de Oro City is one of the premier cities of the Philippines combining modern luxuries and facilities and a small-town feel which has not been lost with the advent of commercial malls and industrial plants.

A precursor

This is a precursor to the XU_AAA website which is coming soon. I had wanted to make one that was simple to make and simple to maintain. When XU AAA President Bebot Noble told me he wanted a website that could hold the directory of all members I was instantly intrigued and wanted to get on the job right away. As luck would have it, I had several mishaps not the least of which is my computer's hard disk giving up on me and rendering months of work unretrievable. Be that as it may, I am open to criticism and vilification.

In the meantime, let me regale you with some of the highlights of last year's XU-AAA Homecoming. Enjoy!
